Sustainability
It is Skjern Papirfabrik’s policy to optimise the products and processes through overall minded environmental work.
These efforts are implementing a sustainable production and management form.Since 1996 the mill has been issuing environmental reports, and has been certified in 1998 according to DS/EN ISO 14001 and also registered under the EMAS regulation.
The mill has its own biological-mechanical wastewater treatment plant and uses natural gas as its source of energy for production of steam.
Through intensive environmental work, Skjern Papirfabrik A/S meets the BAT note for the paper industry issued in July 2000, for the major forms of environmental impact:
- Energy consumption in the form of steam and electricity
- Water consumption
- Emissions to air and water
- Waste production

Skjern Papirfabrik A/S sees environment and occupational health and safety as related, it is part of the mill’s environmental management system to educate and train staff with a view, to continuously reducing the external as well as the internal forms of environmental impact, along with current improvements of the physical working environment.
Related to environment, occupational health and safety, and energy, staff groups have been appointed for each department in the mill.
